Director, House Research LOCATION: Missouri House of Representatives House Research Division Missouri State Capitol Building Jefferson City, MO STARTING SALARY: $87,094.32/ annually DESCRIPTION: This is a senior level professional management position that serves as the Director of the Research Division of the Missouri House of Representatives.
This position supervises and directs the work of the House Research staff to assist members with research and analysis of proposed topics and legislation.
This non-partisan staff position is full time and is eligible for Missouri state benefits.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of House Research is responsible for directing the work of the research staff including advising on policy issues, legal research and legal analysis; monitors developments in public policy and legislative actions as needed by oversight of committee meetings and session activity; and assists members with constituent matters that require legal research and technical information.
The position also assists other House staff offices, as needed, and performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: The position requires a law degree from an accredited school of law and membership in good standing with the Missouri Bar, along with at least five years of progressively responsible related experience.
Legislative experience preferred. In addition, the position requires a demonstrated competence in legal analysis and legal research, thorough knowledge and technical expertise of statutory construction, project management experience in a high pressure, fast paced environment, exceptional communication skills, and proven success in non-partisan relationship management.
The position also requires the ability to work long hours during the legislative session to meet deadlines as required by the legislative process.
